Re: 1st Set Of Presentation Notes and Models
Notes from Presentations in Kathleen AND Steve and Dave’s class:
#1 – Water Colour – Jeanette and Emma
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- how to measure water? – how to make it more conceptual?
- their best bet is to present it as completely scientific using light measurements and water measurements
Curatorial Concerns
- water drips/spills - dropping/breaking beakers
- can their project illuminate others?
- 2 ROOMS
- light control; how dark does their room need to be?
#2 – Disperse – Rose, Steve, Craig, Cam, Dee –
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- concept is distribution of water around the world
- how do people know to pick up the puzzle pieces, and why?
- RFID the pieces? - carry actual water back and forth?
- maybe water bottles? – water bags? – tetras change?
Curatorial Concerns
- water drips - water running out - water transport
- placement of stations so that conceptual connections can be made
- 2 ROOMS; 4 pieces
- how to hide and conceal reservoirs - space for the stages in 2 locations
#3 - *experience pre-standardization*- Josh, Derek, James –
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- why are the arms moving? - what is the connection? – what are you scanning? – how will they connect the two spaces?
Curatorial Concerns
- 3 Stands/ROOMS
- placement to communicate the concept (how will people interpret?)
#4 – Oranges – John, Andrew, Bryan, Carly
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- oranges drop on table in accordance with weight
- challenge social interaction in the gallery space
- what measurement = the amount of oranges on table?
- concept of holding the worlds in your hand?
- how to reset the structure? - incorporating other data from pieces.
Curatorial Concerns
- 2 ROOMS - squashed oranges - interconnection and influence between projects (not just their own) - clean up - other project’s who will have an orange problem - how to hang the basket and consider this in placement - consider the relationship in studio B with all other projects around it

Re: 1st Set Of Presentation Notes and Models
Notes from Presentations in Steve and Dave’s Class (only):
#1 - *self-destructive robot* - Steph and Tara –
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- relationship between humans and robots
- will people surround the robot and he measures this and reacts?
- will the robot look for people for attention and destroy himself when
he doesn’t get any? – what about playing with jealousy? or shyness?
- (currently) MORE PEOPLE = SLOWER Self Destruction
- may incorporate weighing people, or other abstract inputs
- maybe need photocells
Curatorial Concerns:
- flying things from the crashing robot - consideration of placement next to other pieces - where to put sensors; need to know how they work and consider lighting - the scope of the overall area of movement of the robot is an issue - how do we control it driving all over the room if it eventually does - AESTHETICS ARE IMPORTANT to the group - what happens if the robotics fully die in the destruction process?
#2 – Manipulation Sound – Colleen, Bart, Gary –
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- develop a soundscape using the actions and movements of people throughout the room - think beyond doors and windows (those won’t be available)
Curatorial Concerns:
- multiple pieces in the room will need to be a part of this, which will
affect function of the room - interruption of other’s projects
- do they want a WHOLE ROOM? - sound distribution
****In Steve and Dave’s Class we did not hear from PHYSICAL PONG, the Lights group, BRAINWAVES, or the Secrets group.

Re: 1st Set Of Presentation Notes and Models
Notes from Presentations in Kathleen’s Class:
#1 – Brainwaves – Melissa K., Phuoc, Svetlana, Sam -
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- Descartes 6th Meditation – Body vs. Mind
- other than a brain floating in a tank how to represent mind?
- how will audience be able to interact with the brain?
Curatorial Concerns:
- need a projector and webcams
- water concerns
- sound distribution
- HUGE SPACE – 2 ROOMS
#2 – Physical Pong – Andrew, Danny, Alex, Kenny (??) –
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- digital communication that leaves the identity of the user out of the game play situation - what about the use of sound in this case? - what would happen if you used a screen based program instead of projection based program?
Curatorial Concerns:
- TWO PROJECTORS = 2 DARK SPACES
- large are for action
- sound distribution if that is part of the piece
- control of the controls (be aware of other projects)
***In Kathleen’s class we did not hear from the Destructive Robot group, the Lights group, the Secrets group, or the Manipulation of Sound group.
****There is no photographs from pieces only shown in Kathleen's class.

FEBRUARY 14th - NOTES FROM STEVE AND DAVE'S CLASS - Previous notes may be above.
#1 – Secrets – Jeff, Melissa, Robyn, Jenny –
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- approach canvas, hear jumbled secrets, from these canvases find riddle
- open up a way to input secrets too
- 3rd station will have non-jumbled secrets
- utilize an intimate space
- hear fragmented secrets instead of jumbled
- confessions.net; postsecret.com
Curatorial Concerns:
- how big?
- how to move people from one to the other?
- how do you get people to talk to art?
- website of secrets….do we advertise?
- 3 locations
#2 – Brainwaves – Sam, Svetlana, Phuoc, Melissa –
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
-computer with q+a session to turn on waves – expand on this
- real brain
- why just a stick to poke it? – expand on this
- what is it being projected – can we lose the projector?
Curatorial Concerns:
- HUGE SPACES
- WATER
- PROJECTOR
- maybe need the grid – can we give that to them?
- Chemicals
- sound distribution
#3- Focus – Cole, Justin, Devin, Rob
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- as people touch the orbs the lights go on in both spaces (red, green, blue)
- a ghostly presence
- needs more formal form to lights
- hang in hallways????????********
- dance with your piece
- plastic tubes instead of balls
Curatorial Concerns:
- direction of participants – let’s make then DANCE
- hang them in the HALLWAYS – just an idea – leads the participants towards doors
- DARK SPACE
- 2 grids, approx. 25 orbs
#4 – Physical Pong – Danny, Andrew, Alex, Kenny(??)
Ideas and Thoughts Considered:
- guided and pushing blocks around by the sound
- how will we know where the ball is
- person is the paddle, paddle is the player
- add a light to the box to hint where ball is
- BART AND COLLEEN SHOULD COMBINE
Curatorial Concerns:
- sound distribution
- space of giant pong
- monitor placement if there is a monitor
- placement of tacks
- sensors and cameras
